• Tell us something about you that not many people know?

  I can to do a pretty convincing South African accent. Before entering the world of Architecture, I trained as a combat medic serving on the Angolan and Mozambique borders, as well as patrolling the volatile squatter camps in Durban during the pre-election riots. My most memorable experience was being responsible for a community of Bushman trackers and their families in Namibia.

• Where and what did you study to get yourself where you are today?

  I studied full time at the University of Johannesburg and after 4 years graduated with a National higher diploma in Architecture.

• Where have you worked previously?

  I started my work experience by forming a company with 3 of my class mates where we designed and completed mostly residential projects. After a couple of years, the company wound down and we went our separate ways. In 2006 my family and I moved to Port Elizabeth on the south coast of South Africa where I formed my own company designing homes and working as an Estate Agent. I then joined a company called Imbono FJA Architects before moving to the U.K.

• What is the most interesting/exciting/unusual project you have worked on to date?

  In 2010 our company (Imbono) was awarded the design of a new Engineering building for the University of Port Elizabeth (NMMU). I was responsible for the technical design and documentation of the Auditorium and Main Entrance of the organically shaped building.

• What is your favourite building, it can be anywhere in the universe.

  When we moved to Port Elizabeth my wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to design and build our own home on a 3-acre plot in the countryside. I think I will always perceive this house as my most perfect building. It is where we raised our two children and shared many unforgettable memories.

• How long have you been working in this industry / how long have you worked at MELLP?

  I started at Mitchell Evans LLP in Feb 2015.

• What do you want to be when you grow up / what did the ‘6 year old’ you want to be when you grew up?

  I think if I had to choose a career as a six-year-old it would have been a professional Lego builder. I think I’m actually still open to any offers from Lego :).
