I am the 3 x great and 4 x great grandson of the composers of the Welsh National Anthem ‘my hen wlad fy nhadau’ who were James James and Evan James. We are also rumoured to be a descendant of the famous outlaw Jessie James!
I studied at Oxford Brookes University for my degree in Architecture, at Portsmouth for my Masters in Architecture and at South Bank University for my Part 3 professional exams.
I worked for a contractor in Bridgend and an engineering firm before going to university, which provided a great insight into the industry.
I worked on a feasibility study / sketch proposals for a retirement complex based in the mountains of Andalucia, Spain which included residential, commercial and medical accommodation and well as tennis courts, swimming pools and a par 3 golf course!
My favourite building is the Villa Shodhan in Ahmedabad, India by Le Corbusier. The Villa was a culmination of his residential work and created a ‘reassessment of the ideal’ based on a refinement of his classical Purist principles of architecture at the Villa Savoye.
My first job after completing the Masters in Architecture was with Mitchell Evans and that was 20 years ago (gulp) – a lifer!
I recall wanting to be a tax inspector, and also a snooker player as I had my own table, waistcoat and dickie bow!
