The brief was for new contemporary dwelling following the demolition of the existing chalet Bungalow. Our client’s brief was a house that would suit their needs in retirement, to allow for family to come and stay and also have an annexe for future carers if required.

The property spread over two floor encompasses a indoor pool, open plan living kitchen, separate study and 5 ensuite bedrooms all circulated around the double height living and kitchen area.

Situated next to a Grade 1 listed Roman monument and within an area of outstanding beauty, special care and attention had to be given towards the design, the materiality and the position of the house. In addition, with it being within the countryside location the design ethos came from a farmstead and silo’s which led to the design of the individual pods. Each Pod houses a bedroom to take account of the different views available from each location such as Culver Down, Sandown Bay and English Channel views.
